What is a PCU?

PCU (PolarDB Compute Unit) is the scaling unit for serverless PolarDB. 1 PCU ≈ 1 vCPU + 2 GB RAM. Instances auto-scale from 1 to 31 PCU based on load.

Can I scale to zero?

PolarDB serverless scales down to the minimum configured PCU (1 PCU). While it doesn't scale to absolute zero, idle costs are minimal as you only pay for the base compute.

Is there a free tier?

Yes — the Starter plan includes one database instance with 1 PCU at no cost, perfect for development and prototyping.
